Employee morale plays a huge role in the overall success of a company and effects employees’ tenure and company culture. When employees are happy, they are more productive. They want to do a good job which intern improves the company culture. There are several things that employers can do that don’t require a lot of time or money to ensure they have good employee morale.
Recognizing when someone has done a good job really goes a long way. This can be a simple atta boy/girl or a quick email recognizing that the employee did a good job or received positive feedback from clients. It’s important for employees to feel their efforts are being recognized.
Showing that employees are valued as team members and as human beings is important. Recognizing employees’ birthdays and work anniversaries means a lot to employees. This can simply be posting a list in a break or kitchen area or posting these on your company intranet.
Employees enjoy having fun so planning cost effective team gatherings can have a huge impact. Simply having an ice cream social one afternoon in the break room can be a great way for employees to socialize and have fun. Or when college football season starts, allowing employees to wear their favorite college team shirt and jeans on a Friday can bring some fun into the office.
Employees like when they feel their opinions matter and that their manager cares about them. Sometimes just listening to your employee is something they value. A good way to do this is to schedule a one-on-one meeting with your employees on a monthly or quarterly basis where the manager just listens to what their employees have to say. This is also a great time to give employees feedback. Employees like to hear what they are doing right but they also like to know what they can improve on throughout the year. This helps employees to know what is important to their manager and what areas to improve upon.
These are just a few examples of how you can continue to improve on employee morale. If you have any questions on employee morale that is specific to your organization, please feel free to contact one of our HR Professionals at 281-469-1800 and we will be happy to help!
